Lisa Robertson "buzzing" after Scotland debut

Dalkeith’s Lisa Robertson said it was an “honour” to pull on a Scotland shirt for the first time against Cyprus.

The midfielder, who plays her club football with Celtic, came off the bench at half-time as the Scots trounced Cyprus 10-0 in a Euro 2022 qualifier at the AEK Arena.

Penicuk’s Claire Emslie also played, scoring the Scots’ seventh goal with 65 minutes played.

It was a 90 minutes to savour for Scotland and nobody enjoyed it more than Robertson who, at 28-years-old, has had to be patient to make her presence felt at international level.

Following the game, she said: “I’m absolutely buzzing, it was great to play a part and get my debut on the back of a great performance.

"Everyone wants to play for their country, so when you get told that you’re about to play 45 minutes for your country, it’s an amazing feeling.

"I had to just focus, warm up and get myself ready for the game.

"Everyone wants to play for their country and there have been some great players that have played for Scotland.

"You have to work hard and believe so it was nice to get the call-up and finally make my debut.”

Cyprus, who occupy bottom place in Scotland’s Group E, were completely outclassed from the first whistle to last.

Robertson says the Scots have every right to be proud of their display.

"We scored 10 goals which is great for the team,” she said.

"We arrived wanting to win and put on a good performance and I think we did.

"I’ve loved it all, it’s so good to be back playing football and to be playing in a Scotland shirt is an absolute honour.”

Scotland are scheduled to end their qualifying campaign against Portugal in Larnaca on Tuesday. Qualification for the finals is now out of Scotland’s reach but the national team are determined to start building for the next campaign.

Interim-manager Stuart McLaren said: “It’s a credit to the players that they realise the two games out in Cyprus have represented the start of the next stage, and they’re determined to kick on from the win on Friday, and ensure we end the campaign on a high.”

The Portugal match which was due to be played at Easter Road but the venue was changed due to current travel restrictions.
