Newtongrange Star look to the future

Newtongrange Star have announced the appointment of a management and coaching team for the new under 20s setup at New Victoria Park.

The U20’ s manager will be Paul Milligan who will be assisted by coaches Chris Roberson, Scott Reid and Rab Ure.

Star were delighted with the calibre of applicant who got in touch, keen to become involved with the local side’s youth set-up.

A club spokesman said: “The club received a high number of applications from excellent candidates.

"We would like to thank everyone who applied to be part of this exciting new set up at the club.”

Milligan said he was “delighted” to be given the opportunity and now can’t wait to get started.

He added: “Newtongrange have a great set up and it’s an exciting time to be joining the club.

"I’d like to say a huge thanks to Chris and Wes for putting their faith in me and the coaching staff.”

Ahead of the East of Scotland League being shelved for the foreseeable future, Newtongrange Star were sitting ninth in the Premier Division.

With 12 games played they had won five, drawn one and lost six.

First team boss Chris King believes the creation of the U20 side will only benefit the club in the long run.

He added that it’s further evidence Star are getting things right off the park as they build for the future.

He said: “We are delighted to welcome Paul and his coaches to Newtongrange Star.

"The appointment of the management team for the U20s is another step in the right direction as we look forward to next season.

"Myself and Wes are looking forward to working with Paul and his team as we look to create a pathway for local talent in to the first team.”

The new side is expected to now take to the field at the start of the 2021/22 season.

Before the season was placed on its hiatus Star announced the signings of defender Gary Hamilton from Tranent until the end of next season. Attacking midfielder Brad Rixon from Vale of Leithen joined following a trial period while attacking midfielder Gary Nicholson returned from loan.
