Scotland hero David Marshall 'lost for words' after save sends nation to Euro 2020

David Marshall was the hero for Scotland after his penalty save sent the national team to a first major finals since 1998.

The Derby County goalkeeper stopped Aleksandar Mitrovic's penalty in the shoot-out to clinch a place in Euro 2020 after a 1-1 draw with Serbia in Belgrade.

Scotland faced dejection after seeing qualification seemingly snatched from their grasp in the last minute of normal time when a Luka Jovic header cancelled out Ryan Christie's deserved opener for Scotland.

Steve Clarke's side then had to recover from that setback, hanging on through extra-time, then scoring all five penalties in the shoot-out before Marshall made his historic save to book Scotland’s place at next summer’s tournament.

"I'm just lost for words," the 35-year-old stopper told Sky Sports. "It was never going to be easy. We had to see out two or three minutes at the end, but to come back the way we did and how well the lads turned that pressure when they got the equaliser.

"After the last three or four games we've got that belief from winning games and keeping clean sheets. I don't know how we did but we deserved it after the first half especially. I'm so happy."
