James McDonaugh wants repeat performance from Edinburgh City against Airdrie

It's very much a case of same again for Edinburgh City manager James McDonaugh ahead of tomorrow's Scottish Cup second-round trip to Airdrie.

The Citizens travel to North Lanarkshire for the second time in eight weeks following their 1-0 Betfred Cup Group H victory - frontman Blair Henderson scoring the only goal at the Penny Cars Stadium in November.

McDonaugh acknowledges it will be difficult to replicate a positive outcome against Ian Murray's League One side but says his players can approach the tie with a degree of confidence.

"It's good going there knowing that we've already won at the venue this season so that definitely helps," McDonaugh said.

"When you're playing a cup tie against a team in the league above you, you've got to be organised, work hard off the ball, take the chances when they come your way and defend well. You can probably throw a bit of luck into the equation as well.

"We'll need that tomorrow, and it will be difficult, but we can go there in a good frame of mind having already been there and won this season.

"It's been a really flat build-up to be honest because of the current circumstances, not to mention that last season's final was only played three weeks ago so it's just bizarre and a reflection of this season.

"Normally there's a real buzz and excitement during Scottish Cup week but I just think everybody is still trying to get their heads around the latest setbacks,” he added.
