Leith Athletic clinch East of Scotland title

Goals from Lewis Miller, James Hainey and a Scott Wilson penalty was enough to give Leith their first East of Scotland league title since joining the association eight years ago.

Reigning champions Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale were the only team who could mathematically catch Derek Riddel’s men and kept up their end of the bargain with a 3-0 win at Coldstream.

However, Leith are six points clear at the top with the duo set to meet at Saughton Enclosure on Friday in the final fixture of the season.

Elsewhere, struggling Craigroyston suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Hawick Royal Albert at St Mark’s Park and Ormiston went down 1-0 at Peebles Rovers.

Tynecastle host Civil Service Strollers at Saughton Enclosure tonight.
