Lily looking for lift after brutal defeat

Dave McQUEENIE, the Easthouses Lily manager, has had the unenviable task of lifting the spirits and moral of his players at training this week following their 7-1 defeat by neighbours Whitehill Welfare last Saturday.

Even more so because the Easthouses opposition tomorrow is again Whitehill in the second round of the Image Printers Cup. “We were demolished in the opening 18 minutes of the game last week,” admitted McQueenie. “We were down by four goals before we knew it. We only played for about 25 minutes at the start of the second half.

“Whitehill were better than us, they were far quicker and seemed more up for the game. From my perspective it was not pretty to watch and I honestly thought that we would have done much better. Our defending was poor from front to back.”

Easthouses have the chance to rectify that result at Ferguson Park, Rosewell tomorrow, with McQueenie saying: “There is no better way to get back on track than to play Whitehill again. There will be a few changes, and I am expecting a positive reaction from my players.”

Meanwhile the Whitehill manager, Rab Paget, reflected on his side’s victory by saying: “That was the best we have played this season. We had a good balance and a lot of pace and Easthouses were shell-shocked by our start. However, a week can be a long time in football and I expect a totally different game tomorrow.

“I have to pick a team which I think is capable of winning but I also have to keep one eye on next Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie with Edinburgh University.”
