Linlithgow and Bonnyrigg set for War of the Roses

The teams meet at Prestonfield tonight (kick-off 6.45pm) in the ‘War of the Roses’ with McGlynn’s men ten points behind their opponents with one game in hand.

McGlynn said: “It would be incredible if we can take it to the wire this season and we would need Bonnyrigg to go on a run of bad defeats for us to catch them. But, while we still have a chance, we’ll have a go.

“We’re scoring plenty of goals now and have tightened up at the back so we look to be back on track like the start of the season.

“Alex King and Roddy MacLennan are just about ready to kick a ball in earnest again, both coming back from long-term injuries.

“It’ll be like signing a couple of new players at a crucial time of the season. Their problem is that there are players in place playing well and it will be difficult for them to get into the starting line-up.

“They need game time and it’s something we’re looking at for the run-in.

“There are still a lot of points to play for and the season isn’t over until the fat lady sings.”

Bonnyrigg boss Robbie Horn has no doubt he has the players to see the job through with league glory tantalisingly close.

“We’re not going into this game with a winner-takes-all attitude but we’re going there to win the same as we’ve approached every game so far.” he said. “They have good players, we have good players so it’s whoever wants it the most who will win.

“I recognise, though, just how important a win is for both sides but there is no doubt in my mind that we have the players who can finish what we started out to do.

“There’s a huge incentive for Bonnyrigg to win the league with a place in the William Hill Scottish Cup an added prize. We’ve been there before and it’s been a great adventure for the players and supporters, so that’s the challenge for us tonight.”
