Michael Weir: For first time in ages I'm full of belief in Hibs
We’re still only one defeat from being pegged back by the likes of Queen of the South and Raith Rovers, but I’ve got maximum belief in this Hibs team which is not something I’ve been able to say for a long time. We are a strong and confident side who are developing a winning mentality. We just need to keep it going now and try and stretch away from the rest of the teams.
We’ll have a bad spell at some point, so we can’t get too far ahead of ourselves, but hopefully our bad spell comes at a point when we’re already in command of the title race. Certainly at the moment, we couldn’t have asked for a better situation. Although Queens and Raith are close to us, we are seven points clear of Dundee United, eight ahead of Falkirk and ten ahead of St Mirren. I don’t think anyone would have expected that to be the case so early in the season.
If these teams keep dropping points and we keep winning, our confidence will just keep on growing, and it will hopefully all snowball towards us being back in the Premiership next season.
After a few hard-fought wins, we are now adding a bit of style. Morton are a decent side, but we made it look easy against them on Saturday. We look like we’re going to overpower teams, which wasn’t always the case last year. Grant Holt, Brian Graham and Andrew Shinnie all got off the mark and they look like they’ll be good additions. Those three players have added some much-needed experience to the squad, and that will only help Neil Lennon harness a winning mentality within the squad. I expect him to strengthen again, if not before Wednesday, then certainly in January, so it’s exciting times for all Hibs fans.
We have Turriff away on Sunday in the Irn-Bru Cup, and I’m sure Lenny will use the squad for that one. The fringe men need games, but I’m sure the manager will be taking the game seriously and won’t want those who come in to let the club down.
