Midfield star Fraser Fyvie edges nearer to Hibs return

Fraser Fyvie's last appearance for Hibs came in a pre-season friendly against Motherwell on July 10

The 23-year-old hasn’t featured since the pre-season friendly against Motherwell in the middle of last month, a medial ligament problem resulting in him missing both Europa League matches with Brondby, the opening Championship game of the season against Falkirk and the Betfred Cup defeat by Queen of the South on Tuesday night.

Fyvie will again not make Lennon’s squad for the first home league game against Dunfermline on Saturday but thereafter Lennon believes he will be ready to start pushing towards a first-team return.

The former Aberdeen and Wigan Athletic player first suffered the injury at the beginning of February, taking what appeared to be an innocuous knock in the dying seconds of a 1-0 win over Morton at Cappielow, sitting out two months of last season but able to return to play his part in Hibs’ Scottish Cup triumph.

But, having played in pre-season matches against Berwick Rangers, Edinburgh City and Birmingham, Fyvie has undergone a series of injections which, it is hoped, will clear him to rejoin his team-mates in the coming days. Lennon said: “Fraser has had a couple of injections in the medial ligament. I think he’s due one more and hopefully we’ll see him on the training next week.”

Fyvie’s absence has been compounded by the fact fellow midfielder Dylan McGeouch has also been out, the former Celtic youngster missing the final pre-season game away to Shrewsbury Town with a hamstring injury, leaving Lennon unwilling to risk him against either Falkirk or Queens. However, McGeouch is on course to return to his squad for the visit of the Pars.

Meanwhile, it is understood Hibs are still awaiting the work permit which would allow Israeli international goalkeeper Ofir Marciano to +make his debut against Dunfermline despite Lennon having expressed the hope earlier in the week that the issue would only take a few more days.
