Millar fires Broxburn into semis

Thornton Hibs 1Broxburn 2

An INJURY-RAVAGED Broxburn won this match in the dying minutes thanks to a John Millar strike to set up a Fife and Lothians Cup semi-final at Kelty on Wednesday night.

It started very well for Thornton who took a shock lead with only two minutes on the clock.

A harmless ball into the box was stopped by Sean Martin and first to react was Kris Maxwell, who put the ball under the despairing Gary Maley.

Broxburn levelled on 17 minutes when Craig Young was brought down after a driving run into the box. David Morrison’s penalty was well saved by Mark Rowbottom, but Morrison pounced on the rebound to level.

Five minutes into the second half, Martin was through on goal and tried to lob the keeper, who headed clear from outside of his box.

With time running out, Michael Gibson shot from 30 yards only to see Rowbottom superbly tip the ball over. The winner did come though when substitute John Millar broke clear to put the ball under the advancing keeper. David Morrison could have scored in the last minute but fired his shot over the bar.
