Newtongrange Star have sacked manager Alan Miller after an indifferent campaign in the Super League.

After five years in charge of the New Victoria Park men, Miller and coaching staff Ian Black and Finaly Wells were shown the exit door after the club’s AGM on Sunday night.

Star had begun the season poorly after two successive fourth-place finishes in the top flight following promotion from the Premier League in season 2012/13.

A shock exit to Thornton Hibs in the first round of the Fife and Lothians Cup and failure to progress past the second round in the Scottish Junior Cup ultimately cost Miller his job.

After targeting the title this campaign and after investing heavily in the transfer market last summer, they were laboured in the bottom half for much of the season, but have since turned their league season around and sit fifth.

A statement issued by the club said: “Following the club’s AGM on Sunday 8th May, Alan Miller, Ian Black and Finlay Wells have been relieved of their duties by the committee. The club wish to place on record an acknowledgment of thanks to them for their efforts during their 5 years at the club. During that time they won The East of Scotland Cup, The Premier League and have secured a 4th season in the Superleague.”

Star have invited applications for the vacant post to be sent to [email protected] by 12 noon on Wednesday, May 18.
