Newtongrange Star 1-0 Tayport

Newtongrange beat Tayport for the first time ever after a blistering first half which saw them score an early goal then hit the woodwork four times.

This season’s Super League has missed the talents of Chris King and Paul Tansey but, on this form, the Star players will be returning to the top flight next term. Newtongrange were in control as early as the fifth minute when Joe Dunbar smacked an effort off the base of the post.

They took the lead with a typical goal from flying winger Tansey. Craig O’Reilly won the ball in the centre circle then drilled a super pass down the left wing to an unmarked Tansey. He ran on and blasted the ball past a helpless keeper and into the net. They then hit the bar and posts three more times as chance after chance went a begging. It meant the 1-0 lead at half-time remained a fragile one. The second half belonged to the visitors and Star had to rely on keeper Keiron Renton to produce the goods and keep the three points in the bag.
