Penicuik must beat bogey team to bounce back from cup thrashing

PENICUIK have been challenged to bounce back straight away from their Scottish Cup hammering at the hands of holders Auchinleck.

“We knew it was going to be tough through there and the fact we lost wasn’t the disappointing thing,” said joint-manager Craig Meikle of a 6-0 defeat in Ayrshire.

“We didn’t do ourselves justice. We were very bad.”

Tomorrow Penicuik return to Premier Division business with a trip to Ballingry, their ‘bogey’ ground.

“Ballingry are a decent team and we’ve got a terrible record there,” added Meikle. “But training has gone well this week, the guys are still in good spirits and we will be going there determined to bounce back from the Auchinleck result. Now it’s a case of concentrating on the league.”

The Midlothian side are sitting eighth in the table, having lost by the odd goal to Tayport and Broughty Athletic in their last two league games. “We’ve got to try and turn around those sort of matches,” said Meikle.

Meanwhile, striker John Harvey has been placed on the transfer list by Penicuik at his own request.
