Rangers defender has ‘no plans’ to leave this summer

After falling short of the Scottish Premiership title, Rangers are looking ahead to what can be done on the transfer market to improve their chances of snubbing Celtic next season. As well as links to potential new signings, the Gers also have a number of players on their books who have been attracting attention from clubs around Europe.

While some rumours suggest that summer Ibrox departures could be on the cards, one man’s immediate future seems to be safe for the time being. Rıdvan Yılmaz’s agent has confirmed that he has ‘no plans’ to move on from Rangers, despite attempts to lure him back to his home country from the likes of Beşiktaş and Galatasaray.

Necdet Ergezen, Yılmaz’s representative, has stressed that returning to the Süper Lig is not something that the pair are considering right now.

"Rıdvan’s career plan is to continue in Europe. There are no plans to return to the Süper Lig in the near to medium term,” he told Turkish outlet Fanatik.

£42m-rated former Celtic star approached by Barcelona

Over the years, plenty of Celtic superstars have moved from Parkhead and gone on to command major transfer fees in future moves. This is still true to this day and former Hoops defender Jeremie Frimpong is being eyed up ahead of the summer window.

Back in 2021, the Bundesliga side signed the full-back from Celtic for fee of £11.5 million and now he could be set to move on from Germany in an even bigger switch. According to Spanish outlet Sport, Barcelona are following Frimpong with ‘special attention’ as he has been linked with an exit from Xabi Alonso’s side this summer.

Transfermarkt currently value the Netherlands star at €50 million (£42m) but Barca have made an initial ‘lower offer’ for his services. According to the report, Frimpong wants to wait for Euro 2024 to finish before making any decisions.
