The victory sets up a mouthwatering second-round trip to Dens Park on Saturday, where Rose will pit their wits against Championship hosts Dundee.

The Midlothian outfit trailed to a Zander Miller goal at the break at New Dundas Park before George Hunter’s brace and a trio of penalties within five minutes from Currie saw Rose through.

“I thought we deserved it,” a delighted Horn said afterwards. “We created some good opportunities in the first half but found ourselves a goal down with the only real opportunity Bo’ness had.

“We didn’t panic and we started the second half well, getting the penalties and it obviously takes a lot of balls from Lee Currie to score all three. Lee’s a class act. I’ve said it before but he shouldn’t be playing at this level so we’re lucky to have him. He’s a huge player for us.

“I was pleased for George too as I was actually giving him a bit of stick before the game because I think we can get more out of him. He worked hard in the first half and got himself into some good positions. He kept going after the break and got his rewards. Hopefully it will boost his confidence.

“Dundee is a massive game for the club and a big ask, but one we’re looking forward to.”
