The victory keeps Dougie Samuel’s men two points adrift of early pacesetters East Kilbride, who maintained their 100 per cent record with a 3-0 triumph over Dalbeattie Star.

Midfielder Jack Beesley wasted little time in firing home the opener inside two minutes. Paul Thompson doubled the visitors’ lead before Beesley added his second five minutes after the restart. Jamie Dishington, David Greenhill and Dan Ward, the latter’s first goal for the club, made it six of the best. Sean Stewart netted a late consolation for the well-beaten hosts.

Elsewhere, Whitehill Welfare are up to third having made it back-to-back victories with a 3-1 win over Selkirk at Ferguson Park. Winger Steven Manson collected Connor Brydon’s pass and slid the ball past the visiting No.1 before Connor McGregor doubled Steven Hislop’s side’s advantage ten minutes before the break.

Fraser Neave halved the deficit seven minutes into the second half finishing off a sweeping move, but Andy Martin ensured all three points would be staying in Rosewell with a decisive third.

Civil Service Strollers played out an entertaining 3-3 draw with Gala Fairydean Rovers at Christie Gilies Park. David Stewart and Ian Ballantyne had Strollers two to the good with just 16 minutes on the clock but the home side were left stunned as Gala seized control of the match with three goals in the space of just 14 minutes. However, Stewart struck his second of the game with four minutes remaining to salvage a point for the North Edinburgh outfit.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh University were forced to settle for a point as they played out a goalless stalemate with BSC Glasgow at Alloa’s Indodrill Stadium and Preston Athletic suffered a 5-0 defeat by Cumbernauld Colts at Broadwood.
