Teaming up with local authority

There are other examples of Scottish clubs pairing up with a local authority to build a new stadium.

* MEADOWBANK THISTLE teamed up with a private company to build Almondvale Stadium in Livingston. The latter business was then wound up and ownership of the ground was transferred to West Lothian Council, who today let the facility to First Division club Livingston.

* BROADWOOD Stadium in Cumbernauld, home to Third Division Clyde, is owned by North Lanarkshire Council. The club faced eviction over debts totalling £140,000. The council demanded an immediate £40,000 payment and a late deal was struck to prevent Clyde becoming homeless.

* THE Falkirk Stadium was opened in 2004 as a joint venture between the town’s football club and local authority. A council-run subsidiary company manages the facility, with Falkirk FC tenants of the ground.
