Telfer: I wanted to put my stamp on Livi '“ I think I did

Livingston midfielder Charlie Telfer admits his first start for club couldn't have gone much better after his instrumental display in Saturday's 3-1 win at bottom of the table Alloa.

The on-loan Dundee United playmaker was a constant menace to the Wasps defence and had a hand in all three of Livi’s goals as efforts from Jackson Longridge, Jordan White and Sam Stanton steered the Lions to a precious victory.

The West Lothian outfit have now extended their gap over Jack Ross’s side in ninth to seven points ahead of tonight’s visit of play-off chasing Morton.

However, admitting he has had to remain patient having made three appearances from the bench since joining on loan from the Premiership’s bottom club at the end of January, Telfer was delighted with his contributions and hopes he has done enough to warrant a second start tonight.

“I just wanted to go out and put a stamp on the team and I felt I did that,” the 20-year-old said. “I also had a hand in the goals so I was delighted with how things went. We’ve got a great group of boys but have three games in a week to get through so I imagine there will be some rotation. I was just glad to get my first start and hopefully I’ve done enough to get more starts between now and the end of the season.

“The result was equally important against Alloa. We were slightly disappointed conceding the goal but were just delighted to get the points. We were all raring to go so as soon as the whistle went as we knew what we had to do. We were aware of the consequences had Alloa beaten us so we were motivated to try and distance that gap which we managed to do.”

The Lions occupy the relegation play-off spot but have eighth-placed Dumbarton in their sights. The Sons, who are five points better off, are also due at the Tony Macaroni Arena this weekend for another match being billed as a six-pointer.

“Morton are in really good form at the moment,” Telfer admitted. “They got a great result against Hibs last midweek and were unlucky against Raith at the weekend so they’ll be full of confidence coming here. But we just need to focus on what we do.

“We’ve got Dumbarton on Saturday so we’re looking to get some points tonight and then get ready for them this weekend.”
