Tranent boss not counting any chickens in promotion race

The Foresters Park outfit hold a six-point lead at the top of the third tier with eight games remaining. Tomorrow they visit Kirkcaldy YM for just their second game of 2016 after being disrupted by call-offs over the last month.

Their first game back saw them concede a 93rd-minute equaliser against Pumpherston having led 2-0 and Small says they can’t afford to get complacent as they bid for promotion to the Premier League in his first season as boss.

“I think it’s between ourselves, Blackburn and Whitburn for the top two places,” said Small, “although I wouldn’t rule out Rosyth. There’s still a lot of football to be played, we’re in a good position, but there is still a long way to go. I just hope we don’t get complacent, I keep telling them we’ve achieved nothing yet.”

Elsewhere, Newtongrange Star host local rivals Arniston Rangers in the second round of the East of Scotland Cup, while Bo’ness United entertain Lochgelly in the same competition and Super League leaders Bonnyrigg Rose visit North Division leaders Downfield. In the Super League, Musselburgh Athletic travel to Hill of Beath while Penicuik Athletic go to St Andrews.
