It was comfortable win the end for them and although the balance of play was fairly even, Tynie created more chances and got their rewards.

Two special strikes from Alassan Jones had them in the driving seat before John Robertson also got a brace late on.

The intensity levels were at maximum from the get-go with the teams racing after every loose ball and 50-50.

A chance fell the way of Hutchie’s Aidan Cross within one minute after a cross had inadvertently come back off the post, but Kyle Wilson produced a good save.

Liam McCue then had the ball in the net for Tynecastle but was ruled out for offside.

Half chances continued to come and go for both, but mostly for the home side.

Robertson was a focal point in attack and he almost set up Andrew Mackay, before prodding wide himself after pouncing on a short pass back.

At the other end, Kieran Somerville was played through by Leno De Gaetano but Wilson was quickly off his line to close down.

The first of Jones’ free kick goals came just over half way through the first half, on 21 minutes. With the kick awarded just left of centre, he took it left footed and seemed to catch the keeper out by going to the opposite corner with perfect execution.

Things calmed down after the opener, with Cross’ near equaliser from a swerving volley being the only other chance until Jones’ second on the stroke of half time.

This free kick was from an even harder position further to the left. But he somehow managed to lash it into the same corner as before.

The simmer was back up to a boil in the second half and Hutchie continued to knock the ball about nicely as they probed for a lifeline.

But Tynecastle were always a threat on the counter and had several chances to extend their advantage.

Robertson hit the post from Mackay’s pass before also having a fierce strike well saved by Shea Dowie.

As a half-time substitute for Vale, Robbie Mackay was keen to have an impact but his drive from the left of the box was over.

The lively Robertson won a penalty for his side on 55 minutes when he was tripped in the act of shooting. Jones stepped up hoping for a hat-trick but Dowie saved with his foot.

Cross went close yet again after tricking his way into the box, but the tie was soon put beyond the men in gold and black.

Sublime skill down the left by Owen Bryce was the precursor to Charlie Green’s low drive landing at the feet of Robertson who controlled well and tucked home.

De Gaetano went one-on-one straight after but as he tried to knock it underneath Wilson, the keeper managed to block.

The gloss was added with five minutes to go, with Robertson again showing the predatory instincts of his namesake who famously played along the road at Tynecastle Stadium. He knew he couldn’t be offside from the throw so snuck in and rifled a left volley half volley high into the net.
