Weekend Bigots podcast: Meet the self-confessed ‘weekend bigots’

Scotsman journalist Kevan Christie turns the microphone to the fans in the final episode of our Weekend Bigots series, including two supporters who admit to having taken part in sectarian abuse in the past.

Kevan travels through to Hampden to meet the punters ahead of the League Cup final between Rangers and Celtic, hearing from fans from both sides of the Old Firm divide on their views about sectarianism and what they think should be done to eradicate the problem.

Supporters spoke candidly on what the rivalry means to them and challenged negative stereotypes often portrayed in the media.

The second half of the episode hears Kevan speak to two self-confessed ‘weekend bigots’, Andrew and Brian (not their real names), who talk openly and honestly about their past behaviour and how they regret it upon reflection.

However, they also explain how easy it was for them to be caught up in the web of sectarianism on match days, and touch on the lack of education around the issues, especially among football fans.
