Whitehill boss Carnie hopes Duns game finally goes ahead

Whitehill Welfare boss Grant Carnie is hoping the 'worst weather' he's ever seen will finally relent and allow their South Challenge Cup second round tie against Duns to finally go ahead tomorrow.

The tie had been scheduled to go ahead on Wednesday at Preston Athletic’s Pennypit ground, but the pitch was unplayable. Gala Faiydean Rovers’ Netherdale 3G pitch is tomorrow’s venue, and Carnie will be glad to see the back of this winter. “It’s the worst weather I’ve ever seen in football since I was a young laddie,” he said. “I’ve never seen so many games get called off in my life. Not just the Duns game, which has been put off seven or eight times now, but football in general. We’ve not played a lot of football in the last couple of months so fingers crossed it goes ahead.”

Spartans host Cumbernauld Colts in the third round of the same competition, looking to make it two wins from two in a double header against the Broadwood club following last Saturday’s 3-0 win, also at Ainslie Park. Preston Athletic are on Ferrari Packaging Lowland League duty, welcoming Stirling University to the Pennypit.
