Whitehill Welfare's hopes of finishing fourth in this season's Lowland League suffered a setback after they went down 2-0 to Dalbeattie Star at Islecroft tonight.

The Roswell side are now 12 points adrift of fourth-placed Star in eighth, although they do have six games in hand over their rivals.

Jamie McHarrie nearly had the hosts in front as early as the ninth minute but Stevie Manson’s intervention kept the visitors’ goal intact.

Goalkeeper Bryan Young then produced a wonderful save to deny Ian Anderson midway through the first half but it was the same player who edged Dalbeattie in front three minutes before the interval with a neat finish.

Anderson netted his second of the evening ten minutes after the restart when he rounded Young to score from the angle.

Michael Osborne had a couple of half chances as David Bingham’s men went in search of reducing the deficit but they were unable to mount any sort of comeback.

Meanwhile, East of Scotland side Tynecastle were comfortable 4-0 winners over bottom club Burntisland Shipyard at Saughton Enclosure.

Dean Crabbe scored a hat-trick with Ryan Ferguson also on the scoresheet for Tynie.
