The SWPL 2 club will be in today’s draw for the last eight following an industrious performance at Peffermill on Sunday, second-half goals from Nichola Sturrock and Anna Hume – the former’s coming from the penalty spot – securing the win for Mike Ross’s players.

The happy boss said afterwards: “Massive credit to the players today for the attitude they showed to win the game. Hamilton always give us a tough game and today was no different.”

Elsewhere, Spartans Women won their first game under new boss Debbi McCulloch as they swept aside city rivals Hearts 3-0 at Kings Park, Dalkeith.

Nicola Mawson got the ball rolling with a neat finish before Michelle Russell made it two before the interval. Louise Mason’s close-range strike ensured Spartans’ place in the next round.

Meanwhile, current holders Hibs Ladies are also through to the last eight despite not kicking a ball.

The Capital side’s tie with Dundee United was cancelled after their opponents were unable to field a team for the match at Ainslie Park.
