Yes Sir, I Can Boogie duo congratulates Scotland team

Spanish singing duo Baccara – best known for their hit song Yes Sir, I Can Boogie – appear to have congratulated Scotland’s national football team on their epic win over Serbia.

The band’s 1977 single has become an unofficial Scotland anthem after victorious players were filmed singing and dancing to the disco number after Thursday night’s match.

The video went viral on social media, with players and fans starting a campaign to bring the song back to Number One in the charts.

Two messages dedicated to the Scots team, who have gained themselves a place in next year's Euros following their win against Serbia, have now appeared on the band’s official Twitter page.

The first message reads “Thanks! Kisses!” accompanied by the team’s footage of the exuberant Scots players jumping and singing along to the hit.

The second reads ‘Congratulations Team ! @ScotlandNT” with the message shared with the same footage.

Yes Sir, I Can Boogie is one of the top ten best-selling singles of all time, having sold about 18 million copies worldwide, and has made it way into the arsenal of Scottish football celebratory songs.

It was originally adapted by fans as a tribute to Aberdeen defender Andrew Considine after the 33-year-old famously danced to the song on his stag do.

Baccara congratulate Tartan Army on Scotland vs Serbia win

Considine, with a face full of make-up and dressed up in drag, danced along to the song with his friends and father. The footage was then shared on his wedding day in 2015 and subsequently went on YouTube.

While Considine was an unused substitute for Thursday night's epic match, a video following Scotland’s historic win shows him dancing and singing along to the song with team mates including Kieran Tierney, Scott McTominay, Leigh Griffiths and Callum McGregor.

It has been reported Maria Mendiola, one half of Baccara, said the footage was “fantastic” and that she's considering releasing a special version for next year’s Euros.

Scotland dramatically secured a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Serbia, sealed by David Marshall’s save from Aleksandar Mitrovic, to qualify for Euro 2020.

The epic match in Belgrade ended a 22-year wait to return the Tartan Army to a major men’s football tournament once again.
