Youth wrap: Johnston Cup joy for Bonnyrigg 21s

Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic A 21s still harbour ambitions of lifting the Johnston Cup after their latest win

After a scrappy opening period, it was Windsor who broke the deadlock with their first effort on goal. Sam Rintoul skipped past his marker on the left-hand side of the box before drilling the ball across goal for Jordan Burrows to stab in at the back post.

Both sides continued to probe away, but it was Rose who made their mark next just before the break. Lewis Turkington picked up the ball in the box and spun his man before firing into the bottom left corner.

The game opened up in the second half, with both sides prioritising attack over defence. The chances began to flow again and Mussy really should have been back ahead when Daniel Moffat saw his header hit the post.

Then, soon after, Rose capitalised to score the winner. Tyson McLean delivered a cross from the right hand side and Scott Waugh sent a diving header past goalie Daniel Laing.

• Musselburgh Windsor 13s booked a spot in the South East Region Cup semi finals thanks to an emphatic 7-0 win at Longniddry Villa 13s.

In a fairly even first half it was Windsor who twice took their opportunities in front of goal. Josh Campbell broke the deadlock for his side when he anticipated a loose ball in the box to slot in. Then, five minutes later, Ben Gearty found the net.

With that, Villa’s resistance was diminished and Windsor ran riot after the break. Within 30 seconds of the restart Robert Hunter crossed from the right to Lewis Higginson and he controlled and finished for number three.

Then, after Main added another, Villa shot themselves in the foot when Liam Main turned Justin Jordan’s cross into his own goal.

The goals kept on coming for Windsor as the second half progressed and it was Lewis Young who added his name to the scorers list as he followed up Hunter’s initial shot.

Hunter was causing all sorts of problems for Villa and he contributed once more when his effort was followed up by Adam Clark from an acute angle to make it 7-0.

• Edina Hibs CFC 15s held off a stubborn Edinburgh City Real 15s side at Bingham Park to reach the South East Region Cup semi-finals.

In what was a feisty start to the game, Edina went ahead 20 minutes in when Jordan Keenan leapt to head in from a corner. But the lead was short lived for his side as City carved out a response just moments later. David Forbes cut in from the left before picking out the bottom left corner for the visitors.

As the half progressed both sides had opportunities to seize control, but it was Edina who snuck ahead just before half time when Russell Bowers went on a mazy run from halfway before firing in from 18 yards.

City dug deep once more and again they brought the scores level. Just after the break a free-kick from the right was turned in at the near post by Zac Nicol to make it 2-2.

Just as it looked like City could push on, they shot themselves in the foot as Matthew Smith turned Steven King’s free-kick into his own goal.

Then, late on, Edina secured their victory when Bowers showed quick thinking to blast in a loose ball from close range to make it 4-2 to the home side.
