Youths: Edina Hibs 15s excel to claim Scottish Cup

In an incredible start to the game, Edina took the lead with barely 30 seconds on the clock. Aidan MacKenzie managed to get in behind the Hutchie defence as he latched onto the ball before sending it into the bottom-left corner.

Steven King was causing all kinds of problems for Hutchie and he was unlucky not to double the advantage with goalkeeper Shea Dowie making two clever saves down low.

Hutchie were digging their heels in a bid to make it to half-time without conceding another but Edina made the most of their next chance in front of goal to go two up. MacKenzie intercepted the ball at the heart of the Hutchie defence and kept his cool to score from close range.

Hutchie improved in the second half but once more Edina found the net with another show of composure in front of goal as Russell Bowers nodded the ball over the advancing Dowie. Vale did at least have a consolation goal to cheer late on as Nathan Hill tucked the ball home from five yards out, but the damage was already done.

• Spartans 14s are the kings

Spartans 14s were crowned Willie Bauld Cup winners as they came from behind to defeat Hutchison Vale 2-1 at Tynecastle.

The cup final began in stop-start fashion with both sides battling to hold onto the ball. But, by the tenth minute mark, Hutchie were ahead with their first real chance in front of goal. Brandon Hunter sent Rory Hamilton down the left-hand side and he raced through on goal, cutting into the box to fire past goalkeeper Harry Stone.

It was an early setback for Spartans but they persevered and, ten minutes later, they were all square. Keir Russell’s inswinging corner from the right evaded everyone in the Hutchie 18-yard-box before creeping just inside the back post. With the scores at 1-1, the final was all to play for but, despite the best efforts of both teams, the half ended without another goal. There was very little to separate the two sides, meaning the next goal was likely to be the winning one.

And, following a scrappy second half. Spartans grabbed an injury-time winner. A long ball forward saw Robbie Walker knock the ball past the advancing Beveridge before he rolled the ball into the net.

• Tranent take the honours

Tranent Juniors 19s held firm late on to lift the Royal Edinburgh Cup as they edged out Leith Athletic YFC 2-1 at New Dundas Park.

Neither side committed themselves too much in attack early on but that quickly changed once Tranent took the lead. Jamie Cook crossed the ball in from the right and Tyler Connachan nodded his side in front.

It opened up the game and both sides started to push more bodies forward. However, although both Tranent and Leith had a few chances before half-time, neither side found the net.

There was still a long way to go in the final but, early on in the second half, Tranent took a step closer to victory. Marc Reid switched the play from left to right allowing a ball to be crossed into the box by Liam Diaminchzek with Lloyd Fiddler powerfully heading home.

Leith, for all their possession, couldn’t carve out much in the final third of the field. However, that finally changed with 20 minutes to go as Christopher Robertson took full advantage of a free-kick from just outside the box to whip the ball over the Tranent wall and in.

Leith went with four up front in a bid for an equaliser and looked to have grabbed it with five minutes to go as Robertson was put through on goal. However, Elias Mukora made a crucial last-ditch challenge just as he looked to pull the trigger. Tranent held firm from there on in to lift the trophy.
