The Edina Hibs CFC 2002 squad and officials celebrate with the Cup at New Dundas Park

On a warm and bright morning at New Dundas Park, Hibs began on the front foot and they didn’t hold back. Merwa opened the scoring 12 minutes in as he latched on to a throw-in from the right and hit a half-volley into the top-right corner.

Hibs continued to dominate and, after Merwa struck again with a tidy finish in the box, the striker bagged his third goal in the space of ten minutes as he showed quick feet in the box to steer an effort into the bottom-right corner.

As the half wore on, Hibs didn’t let up and they found a fourth of the game. Jamie Martin sent Aidan Dodds through on goal and he showed composure to score when one-on-one with Craigie goalie Darren Owen.

Craigie made some changes in personnel and formation at half-time which meant they began the second half looking lively but unfortunately they still weren’t equipped to deal with the Edina threat. Dodds set up Martin midway through the second half to wrap up the win as the No. 15 kept calm to finish.

Goalkeeper Nicol Heriot was the penalty hero for Kirkliston South Queensferry 13s as they defeated Edinburgh City 13s in the George Salmon Cup final at Saughton Enclosure.

Though penalties were required, the game might well have gone either way in what was a closely-contested match.

After a scrappy start, Queensferry took the lead as Callum Hay seized upon a loose ball in the area to slot home. The lead didn’t last long, though, as City bounced back ten minutes later. Aiden Cameron rounded the Queensferry goalie to make it 1-1. In the second half, there was still very little to separate the teams as they cancelled each other out. Extra time was required and City thought they had won when Cameron hit a peach of a free-kick at goal but Heriot made a terrific save before also keeping out Lewis Meechan.

The game was destined for penalties and the Queensferry goalie made three top saves to deny City as his team-mates Robbie Main, Michael Wallace and Ronnie Whitehouse found the net to secure victory.

Spartans Reds 17s bagged another cup final spot as they edged out Musselburgh Windsor 17s 2-1 in their Prison Officers Cup semi-final at Spartans Academy.

In a tight first half, it was Mussy who grabbed the lead. Sean Brown pounced on a loose ball in the box to force it over the line.

However, much like their Victor Paris final performance two weeks ago, Spartans came out after the break in determined mood. They got on level terms with 60 minutes on the clock. A free-kick from out wide was floated into the box and Cameron Dawson leapt above everyone to head the ball past goalie Grant Goodfellow.

Mussy replied with chances of their own as the game opened up. The next goal was going to be crucial and Spartans got it as Lewis Hall drove into the box and was fouled. The referee pointing to the penalty spot and, when Goodfellow saved Dawson’s spot-kick, Murray Hand raced to the spilled ball to fire in from a tight angle.
