Frazer hat-trrick against Watsonians keeps Grange top

Cammy Frazer scored three times as Grange recorded their fifth win in six Division One hockey games to continue to lead the title race.

A 5-2 win over Watsonians moved them on to 16 points, one ahead of champions Bromac Kelburne. Luke Cranney opened the scoring and his Scottish international squad-mate Fraser converted two penalty corner strikes. Frank Ryan added a deflection and, after the break, Fraser completed his hat-trick. Watsonians scored two goals late-on but they were too little too late.

Edinburgh University drew a blank at Hillhead and slipped to fourth position in the league of ten.

The Glasgow side won 3-0 and now have ten points, the same as the under-strength students whose leaky defence caused them real problems.

The opener came when the Edinburgh defence failed to clear and the ball fell to Craig Paterson who flicked it home.

Antonis Efthymiou and Jamie Wong had chances but Hillhead goalkeeper Jamie Frail denied them.

At the other end, Chris Wilson poked the ball into the net and then former Edinburgh player Callum Duke found Andy Maclaine who rolled the ball into the empty net to complete the scoring.
