The duo were part of the winning Great Britain & Ireland squad that beat the USA at CordeValle last year.

And they coasted to a victory which sees them join five other qualifiers for the £33,000 final which takes place on the Jack Nicklaus designed course at Carden Park in Cheshire between August 17-19.

West Linton PGA pro Wright and Clydeway Golf-attached Fox carded a nine under-par round of 62 at the East Lothian venue.

They finished two shots ahead of Mark Hillson (Kilconquhar Castle Estate) and James McGhee (Whitehill House Golf Club); Gareth Hardy (Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club) and Michael Rae (Drumoig Golf Centre); and Craig Gordon (Edinburgh Golf Centre) and Paul Malone (Braid Hills Golf Range) who all tied for second spot.

“It was good to get together with Graham again after the PGA Cup victory,” said Wright. “We complement each other’s game and thought it’d be good to keep the partnership going in this event.”

They recorded five birdies on the back nine to ease home and the Capital-based Welshman added: “We’ve played together in the regions and it works well. This was fairly comfortable for us but it actually could’ve been so much better than nine-under-par. We probably left a few shots out there but we wanted to get through.”

Wright admitted he was tempted to play by the fact that the showpiece final would be held at Carden Park in Cheshire, where he won the PGA Club Professionals’ Championship there four years ago. He’s also been there for Tour School.
