Golf: Fantastic Fife see off East to seal Winter League title

FIFE wrapped up the Lothians & Fife Golf Associations Winter League title in style by thumping East in their final match at Pitreavie.

A 7-3 victory carried the men from the Kingdom over the finishing line as they moved three points ahead of nearest challengers West.

West’s scheduled clash with Mid was cancelled due to the latter being unable to raise sufficient players but that match no longer needs to be fulfilled.

Ross Noon, the 2011 Lothians Order of Merit winner, provided East’s sole success in the top eight matches in Dunfermline as the home side ensured there was to be no late slip-up.

Noon recorded a big victory over Colin Martin while the other two points for the visitors were delivered by Alexander Wilson and Ollie Roberts.

Underlining his potential, teenager Wilson beat Scott Stewart-Cation, a former South East District Open champion.

The defeat means that East, once the event’s kingpins, finished bottom of the table on this occasion.
