Golf: Harrison have little bit extra to see off Edinburgh Western

HARRISON needed to dig deep to win an all-Braids battle with a much-improved Edinburgh Western in the latest round of matches in the Edinburgh Municipal Clubs’ Winter League.

Justin White and Scott Knowles led the way for Harrison with a 2 and 1 success over Danny Cameron and Brian Reid in the top match, but the next two were both halved. That meant it all came down to the anchor match, which also went the distance before Mike Robson and Cameron Bruce emerged with a two-hole success for Harrison. The 3-1 win puts them at the top of Group A.

In Group B, Portobello chalked up their first win of the campaign by making home advantage count against Braids United. It also finished 3-1 in that one – father and son Kenny and Matthew Craigie both won their matches – and Portobello hope to be boosted by having John Ralston back in the New Year. This Saturday sees Group B leaders Silverknowes entertain second-placed Carrickvale.
