Golf: Paula edges thrilling finale

RAVELSTON’S Paula McDougal is the new Midlothian Women’s Champion of Champions after winning a thrilling final at Royal Burgess.

In a ding-dong affair, she beat Greenburn’s Liz Stewart at the first extra hole in a sudden-death play-off after holing a teasing birdie putt at the last to stay alive.

In another Midlothian Women’s event, Claire Hargan claimed the scratch spoils and the host club’s Arlene McGarty the main handicap honours in the Autumn meeting at Harburn.
