American John Vogelpohl is aiming to go all the way in the Stephen Gallacher Foundation National Matchplay after digging deep to reach the last eight. The 17-year-old, who is a member at both Pitreavie and Forrester Park in Fife, was one down with two holes to play against Aboyne ace Carmen Griffiths.Taking the tiger line over some trees, he drove the green at the par-4 17th to win that with a birdie before holing from 10-feet at the last for victory after Griffiths three-putted."It was a great game and Carmen played very good, so I was delighted to win," said Vogelpohl. He came over to Scotland from Ohio with his family around six years ago when his dad took up a pastor's post at a church in Glasgow."I have started to play more competitively since coming here and I close to being off plus one," he added. "It's been competition this week and now my aim is to try and go as far as I can."On a day when Rachel Foster's run was also ended, Ruben Lindsay stepped up his bid for a Stephen Gallacher Foundation double after winning last year's flagship event at Macdonald Cardona, near Peebles."I played really well tee to green," said the Ayr Belleisle player of his 3&2 win over Luke Volland. "I missed a couple of chances on the front nine before making three birdies in a row. It was a good comeback, I guess."Lindsay faces Oliver Mukherjee in the last eight, where Cormac Sharpe, Jack Mann, Cameron Adam, Alfie Robinson and Gregor Graham are the others still standing.
