The knock-out tournament was set up by Gallacher and his team after Scottish Golf cancelled its entire 2020 schedule in April due to the coronavirus. It has involved players from all over Scotland, receiving daily temperature checks and social distancing at all times.

“I am sure I am speaking for most of the field when I say that this week has been so valuable,” said Adam, 17, one of Scotland’s rising stars. “It has not been easy and the foundation has done a fantastic job in setting this up. It is great to be back out competing when it seemed there was going to be absolutely nothing.”

Also still standing in the main event are Ruben Lindsay, Cormac Sharpe and Gregor Graham, with Carmen Griffths and Rachel Foster flying the flag for the girls.

“There are a lot of good players left. It is shaping up to be quite exciting,” added
Adam.

Foster, a 17-year-old Prestwick St Nicholas member, echoed Adam’s views after sweeping into the last 16 with a 6&5 win. “Thanks to the Stephen Gallacher Foundation for arranging this event,” she said. “It’s not normal for us to be going head-to-head with the boys, but it is good to challenge yourself.”
