The North Berwick woman had travelled to the United Arab Emirates to play in the Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic, which starts tomorrow at Emirates Golf Club.

But she has been withdrawn from the event by the LET along with England's Annabel Dimmock and Finn Ursula Wikström after the trio tested positive for the virus.

A statement read: "The LET has implemented a strict Covid-19 testing process throughout the season and the players, who had not, and have still not, exhibited any symptoms, were tested upon arrival into Dubai on Monday morning.

"The three players have followed all the LET guidance and protocols put in place to mitigate the risk of transmission of Covid-19 and will now remain in self-isolation for a minimum of 14 days in accordance with the mandatory health authority and medical professional guidelines.

"Contacts identified as part of the track and trace process will be managed in accordance with the health authorities guidelines."

Matthew, who led Europe to victory in last season's Solheim Cup on home soil at Gleneagles, is the highest-profile woman golfer to catch the virus since golf came out of lockdown in the summer.

The 51-year-old's only competitive appearances this year have both been in Scotland - in the ASI Ladies Scottish Open at The Renaissance Club and the AIG Women's Open at Troon.

She tweeted: "I am feeling fine and have no symptoms. I would like to thank the LET and Omega Golf Dubai for all their help and support."
