Golf mourns the loss of former LGA president Tom Porteous
He joined Longniddry the day before his 19th birthday in 1953 and was part of the team that won the inaugural East Lothian Winter League in 1966/67.
Porteous also served his beloved local club with pride, becoming captain in 1964.

Hide AdHe won a silver medal in the Dispatch Trophy when Scottish Special Housing Association were runners-up to the Department of Health in 1962.
Porteous was then elected to the Lothians Golf Association Executive in 1968, serving until 1974 and again from 1980 to 1989, when he became president.
He then became the Lothians representative on the Scottish Golf Union Executive from 1990 to 1997 and worked tirelessly to develop boys’ golf.
Porteous also served as one of the SGU representatives on the committee of the East of Scotland Open from 1990 to 2007 and in that time only missed the 2003 event due to the fact that he was in Japan as manager of the Scotland Boys team.

Hide AdIn 1984, he was elected as vice president of Longniddry and held this position until 2017 when he retired due to ill health.
“Tom was a great family man and he gave outstanding service to golf,” said friend and clubmate Peter Lowe.
A thanksgiving service is being held at Longniddry Parish Church on Monday, 13 August at 1pm.
