Gullane to host Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship in 2021

Gullane Golf Club will welcome Scotland’s leading female amateur golfers next summer when it hosts the Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship for the eighth time.

Gullane Girls champion Abbie Nisbet will be hoping to use local knowledge to her advantage when the East Lothian venue hosts next year's Scottish Women’s Amateur Championship.

The East Lothian venue first held the championship in 1908, just five years after its inaugural staging. It has hosted the event on a further seven occasions, the last of which was in 1994 when the trophy was claimed by Catriona Matthew, now an honorary member at the club. It was the European Solheim Cup captain’s third win in four years.

Ladies European Tour stars Kelsey Macdonald and Michele Thompson are among the more recent winners of the Scottish Women’s Amateur.

“It is a great honour for the club to be hosting such a prestigious women’s amateur event and we’re looking forward to welcoming the best female players in Scotland to compete over our world-famous links,” said Gullane club captain Adam Fox. “As one of the biggest clubs in the country, we are committed to supporting Scottish Golf’s events and we are proud of our rich history of holding major national and international amateur tournaments.

“With the significant investment we have made in our world class practice facilities, including our acclaimed new short game area, I’m sure the players will be excited to come to Gullane to compete and follow in the footsteps of some of the biggest names in golf. It is vital that Scotland’s elite level female amateurs have the opportunity to experience the type of courses that will test their ability in full and we are delighted to provide such a platform.”

One of the likely title contenders will be Curtis Cup squad player Hannah Darling, now a junior member at the club and a twice winner of the Scottish Girls Championship, while

other home players in the field are likely to include reigning Gullane Ladies Club Champion Lindsey Garden and Girls Champion Abbie Nisbet, both of whom will be hoping to put local knowledge to their advantage.

The Championship will take place from June 3-6 with two rounds of stroke play over the No.1 and 2 courses, before the leading players earn their places in the match play stages

which will be played over No.1. Entry to the event costs £60 and competitors can enter online at the Scottish Golf website or via the app.
