Musselburgh golfers go barefoot to raise money for charity
It probably won’t catch on - especially in Scotland in the winter - but a group of Musselburgh Golf Club members have been giving barefoot golf a go!
The bold step was taken as members of the East Lothian club rose to a challenge set by CCLASP, a long established charity supporting children with cancer & leukaemia and their families.

CCLASP had invited golf clubs in Edinburgh and the Lothians to ask a member or two to kick off their shoes and play some barefoot golf in aid of the charity.
The club raising the most money will win a day with Ryder Cup star Stephen Gallacher and everyone sponsoring a shoeless golfer is in a draw to win a fourball at Gleneagles.
At Musselburgh, the idea captured the imagination of club captain Stuart Wright, who was joined by head pro Norman Huguet, as well as the club champion, junior champion, ladies’ captain and others in kicking off their shoes and hitting some shots.
The amount raised on the day remains a secret since other golf clubs are in the fundraising race, with the challenge closing today.
Valerie Simpson, the CEO of CCLASP, said: “We are overwhelmed that so many people are rising to the barefoot golf challenge and helping to raise much needed funds.”
For over 25 years, Simpson has worked tirelessly for children suffering from cancer and leukaemia.
Simpson and her team have delivered over 40,000 items to affected families during lockdown and support families 24/7 in so many ways.
