Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew says she is 'Covid-free'

Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew has expressed her delight after being told she has not caught COVID-19.

Catriona Matthew is heading home after two COVID-19 tests taken 24 hours apart in Dubai showed up as negative

The 51-year-old from North Berwick was withdrawn from this week's Omega Dubai Moonlight Classic after a test on her arrival at the Emirates Golf Club on Monday showed up as positive.

Matthew, who was immediately placed into isolation in the UAE, has since had two subsequent tests and both have been negative, meaning she is free to return home.

"I'm happy to say I'm COVID-19 free," wrote the 2009 Women's Open winner on Twitter. "Two negative tests 24 hours apart and I'm heading home.

"I'd like to thank the LET and Omega Golf Dubai and the health authority for their support during this very stressful time and I look forward to competing again soon.

"Thanks also to everyone for all their supportive messages."

Matthew had been surprised by the negative test after testing negative along with her husband/caddie Graeme at Heathrow last weekend en route to Dubai.
