The title triumphed equalled a record set by Longniddry, though it wasn’t plain sailing for Gullane this time around.

North Berwick, in fact, led the defending champions until Gullane won a key clash between the two teams. Royal Musselburgh also put in a strong challenge, topping the table heading into a title decider at Gullane only to see the hosts win that clash.

The double was then completed as Gullane beat North Berwick 3-2 at Kilspindie, where Mark Dickson and John Clelland clinched the crucial point.

A change in structure next term allows Division 2 champions Craigielaw, Musselburgh and Tantallon move up to the top flight, whilst just two teams – Longniddry and Kilspindie – are relegated.

Meanwhile, Scottish Order of Merit winner Euan McIntosh leads Lothians into battle against Stirlingshire at Glenbervie tomorrow. Joining the Turnhouse man are Stuart McLaren (Bruntsfield), Benn McLeod (Musselburgh), Michael Bacigalupo (Longniddry), Michael Wilson (Kingsfield), Barrie Lewis (West Lothian), Rory Smith (Dalmahoy) and Simon Lockhart (Bathgate).
