Hat-trick of titles will do for Knowe

Carrick KNOWE dominated the finals of the Scotmid sponsored Water of Leith Knockout Championships with a glorious hat-trick of titles delivered by their success in the Pairs, Fours, and Junior Singles.

The wins have made for a memorable year in office for the WoL President John Mitchell who has had to adopt a neutral stance throughout but is justifiably proud his club have enjoyed a tremendous season that included capturing the WoL First Sixteens title.

Mitchell’s younger brother Colin played a leading part with the five-times winning Tait Trophy legend skipping Rab Hush and Kevin Tennant to the Triples title with a 15-11 win over Mike Fraser, Brian McCann and Andrew McDonald of Slateford.

The triumph in the Pairs was delivered by emerging teenage star Stephen Pringle and recently crowned National Fours winning skip James Hogg who combined their talents to score a commanding 20-11 win over Graeme McAdam and Chris Wilson of Juniper Green.

The Juniper challenge was still very much alive and kicking at 11-12 after ten ends but was sentenced to oblivion by the seve- end finishing run of 1, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 1 from Pringle and Hogg.

Colin Tough – the younger brother of club champion Richard – was the spearhead figure in the Junior Singles and he exploded into a 10-0 lead that set him on course for an impressive 21-11 win over Stuart Jenkin of Juniper Green.

Currie also had an excellent finals day with their support able to cheer a double title success with wins coming from them in the Singles and Fours.

Club champion Andrew McKendrick was at the helm in the Fours and skipped his rink of Colin Anderson, Stuart Inglis and Brian Telford to a battling 14-12 win over Cameron Cairns, Ian Campbell, Allan Milne and Brian Davies of Colinton.

Kenny Melville denied Carrick Knowe a fourth success with a 21-11 win over Andy Beath to capture the ‘blue riband’ Singles crown.
