Hockey: Brogdon well worth the wait as Grange sweep past CALA Edinburgh

ANDREW Brogdon made his long-awaited debut for Grange hockey club after injury and helped the Capital club to a 6-2 victory over CALA Edinburgh, a result that moves them back into second spot in the ten-strong Division One.

Brogdon, who is director of hockey at Stewart’s Melville, brought a new dimension to Grange’s play, according to coach Colin Clarke.

“Andrew is an excellent player and a great find for us. It was his first competitive game for us and he is a big help to our younger players.”

Robert Barr netted twice from penalty corners with teenager Matt Connor and Phil Sully also scoring doubles. Scott Sutherland and Ramsay Bell scored for CALA at Peffermill.

Kelburne are now five points clear of the chasing pack following their 5-1 home win over fourth-placed, but under-strength, Edinburgh University at Bellahouston.

Inverleith’s five-game winning run came an abrupt halt against Western, losing 3-2 at Peffermill. Inverleith missed central defender Adam Mackenzie and Western’s snipers, Dougie Simpson and Scott McCartney, with a brace, capitalised.
