Hockey: Grange ‘can cause a shock’

GRANGE coach David Knipe believes his side can cause a shock in this season’s Scottish indoor hockey title race.

Knipe’s men, who finished third last season, open their campaign tomorrow in Perth against title holders Inverleith before facing Clydesdale.

Knipe said: “We’re trying to stay in shape predominantly because we’re going into Europe outdoors later in the season.

“Some of our more experienced players are unavailable, but we’ve got a solid group including several internationals.

“Our squad includes goalkeeper Colin Johnstone, Cammy Fraser and Matt Connor plus Phil Sully and Colin Cameron.

“Inverleith and Grove Menzieshill are strong but, on our day, teams like ourselves, Kelburne and Western can possibly cause a shock.”

Newly-promoted CALA Edinburgh open the tournament against Western before facing Kelburne.

Champions Inverleith take on Grove Menzieshill after their opener with Grange.
