Horse Racing: Golden Graham set to make it a double at Musselburgh

It is significant that with Doncaster also staging racing in the north, Lee heads across the Border where he can steer Stand Clear to victory in the Weatherbys Printing Services Novices Handicap Chase (1.15pm) for his boss, Ferdy Murphy.

The mare was successful over hurdles at Sedgefield last year when Lee did particularly well to overcome a slipping saddle and Stand Clear has been placed in four of her six races since then.

She has been runner-up at Sedgefield on her last two appearances when partnered by Lee and was sent off favourite there recently.

The six-year-old makes her debut here over the larger obstacles tomorrow, but will have been well schooled at home and the two-and-a-half-mile trip should be just up her street, so she can recoup the losses.

Lee and Murphy can complete a quickfire double with Glasson Lad in the following event, the Buy 2012 Annual Members Badges Today Maiden Hurdle (1.50pm).

The four-year-old hinted at ability in bumpers and was runner-up over hurdles at Sedgefield last spring and again at Huntingdon last month.

He ran really well on his latest appearance at the former track, chasing a highly-regarded recruit from the flat until coming to grief at the final hurdle. He was held at the time but can enjoy better luck tomorrow.

Vosges won twice over hurdles on this track back in the early weeks of the year and can make it three wins from three visits to the seaside circuit in the Nodram Chase (2.25pm).

The gelding caught my eye on his reappearance at Kelso recently where he was well supported on his chasing debut. He led for a long way and was still in second place when a blunder two from home knocked the stuffing out of him. He will have learned a lot from that experience and his stable are on pretty good form.

Young Adam Nicol has ridden one winner so far but has also made the frame on eight occasions and can land the second victory of his career on Rhymers Ha in the concluding Border Safeguard Maiden National Hunt Flat Race (3.30pm).

The partnership were fourth in a similar event at Kelso in October and were then second at Carlisle just over a fortnight ago. Both horse and rider are clearly improving with experience and can go one better here for Lucinda Russell’s Fife yard.
