Capitals led 2-1 through Peter Holecko after 48 minutes but two power play goals from Fife turned the game. Safar leads his troops at Dundee CCS Stars in the Challenge Cup on Saturday (7pm).

And he said: “We played great for 55 minutes at Fife but for five minutes we lost our focus.”

Safar, whose sound performances in the back end of last season convinced Capitals bosses to bring him back, added: “Everybody is working really hard.

“But we learned a lesson at Fife. We now know that we can’t switch off at this level.”
