Coupled with Tuesday’s defeat at Coventry Blaze, Edinburgh remain marooned at the bottom of the Elite League table, seven points behind Dundee Stars.

Sheffield’s win moved them above Belfast Giants into second place, six points behind leaders Cardiff Devils.

Caps could do nothing about Markus Nilsson’s opening goal on 15 minutes. However, the same could not be said after the same player was credited with doubling the home side’s lead just 32 seconds into the second period. Ian Schultz, under no pressure, produced a horror give-away right in front of Edinburgh goalie Travis Fullerton. A mad scramble ensued after the first opportunity was missed, the unlucky Fullerton with the final touch before it crossed the line.

Jake Armstrong added Sheffield’s third goal in the 25th minute.

Robert Dowd added a well-worked fourth 90 seconds before the end of the second period.

Schultz got Edinburgh on the board with a power-play goal in the 56th minute although Dowd scored an immediate reply for Sheffield.

However, there was still time for Garrett Milan to score a second for Edinburgh, 26 seconds from the final buzzer.
