The 29-year-old was making his return following an 18-month lay-off but shrugged off any ring rust as he made short work of his Eastern European opponent.

McCallum improves his professional record to 11-1 and is predicting a big 2018 as he plots his move up the rankings in the light heavyweight division.

“He was an awkward southpaw who done everything to survive,” Edinburgh fighter McCallum said. “He kept holding on for dear life. It was good to get four rounds in after 18 months out but I was too guilty of going looking for the knockout from the first bell to try and please the crowd.

“It was just great to be back in the ring doing what I love to do. I want to thank everyone who came out to support me as the atmosphere was unreal. I’m excited to see what my manager Steve Goodwin has in store for me next. I want the big fights so I am able to reach my peak. I feel a lot stronger at light heavyweight and I fancy my chances coming up against any of the big names.

“I didn’t box until half past midnight and then had to get up at 6am to get home for my little girl Scarlett’s sixth birthday – but it was a double celebration this weekend.”
