John Thain to fight Skeete for the British Welterweight title

Edinburgh's John Thain says he intends to keep the feelgood factor going around the city after it was announced he will box reigning champion Bradley Skeete for the British welterweight title.

The duo will meet at the Brentwood Centre in Essex on Friday, November 25, live on pay-per-view television channel BoxNation.

Orthodox fighter Thain has been afforded the opportunity having overcome Nathan Brough in a British title-eliminator in Glasgow last month.

And now the 29-year-old intends to follow in the footsteps of both Josh Taylor and Jason Easton who won Commonwealth and Celtic super-lightweight titles respectively almost a fortnight ago.

“This is a great age for Edinburgh boxing,” Thain said.

“It did go quite dormant for a while after Alex Arthur so it’s great to see what’s happening at the moment and I want to be a part of it.”

“It’s going to take a very good performance to win the belt but any fight at this level isn’t easy if you want to be British champion.

“You can’t pick and choose who you box, especially as the challenger but I believe I can take this title.”

Skeete, also 29, is the current WBO European champion and has an impressive record of one loss and ten knockouts in 24 professional fights.
