Kieran Cantley at the double despite Henderson pipping him

Neil Henderson pipped rising host club star Kieran Cantley for the silverware in the East Alliance's last outing of the season at Liberton.

Renaissance Club man Henderson claimed the Tom Galloway Trophy with a 65, which Cantley matched in gross terms but he plays off plus one so just missed out. Despite that, Cantley is celebrating a double success, having secured top spot in both the handicap and scratch order of merits.

The handicap event has now concluded, with Cantley finishing with 184.5 points, 15 better than second-placed Andy Rothney from Deer Park. And, though double points are up for grabs in the season-ending championship at Gullane, he also holds an unassailable lead in the scratch title race.

In an event featuring 74 members, Henderson’s two-under effort comprised of halves of 34 and 31. It secured the scratch spoils by a shot from Bathgate’s Chris Curran, with Jamie McLeary (Dalmahoy) two shots further back in third.

Cantley won the handicap event by two strokes from Torwoodlee’s David Brydon, with Rothney a shot adrift in third.

Top trainee was Duddingston’s Ross Munro on 73 
while the senior prize was shared on 70 by John Fish (Musselburgh) and Ron Grant (Baberton).
